Magnificent Boys

The Magnificent Boys, Mag Boys for short, were a group of young gentlemen at Maple consisting of Spencer Owens, Robbie Gaskin, Phil Devries, Bryden Ferrato, Kyle Hammond, and Llama. The name "Magnificent Boys" came about in a pretty amazing way - a few of the above mentioned dudes wrote "MB" in capitals on their griptape, due to their infatuation at the time with then B-list pop star Michelle Branch. Klayton, another dude who used to frequent Maple and still comes around once in a while, one day asked one of them, "What the %&^$ does 'MB' stand for? Magnificent Boys?" And here started an epic concept for a video. Unfortunately the full length video is only available on VHS and the 3 or so copies are very rare, so all there is to this post is the trailer and some Mag Boys-related videos from back in the day. FWWAAAAAAAAASH!

This is the trailer for the full feature:

This one's a montage made by almost all members of MB:

This here is a line Rob Gaskin did at Muskoka Woods indoor facility. The first fall is hilair:

And finally, two videos of Spencer Owens. The first - him skating the second version of Evolushun indoor skatepark in Hamilton and landing nothing. In contrast, the second is Owens landing the greatest trick ever documented at Maple skatepark:

Ryan Hunt

Back when Ryan Hunt used to go to Maple, you could hear every little kid at the park talking amongst themselves about whether or not he really was Andrew Reynolds. One of the first times I'd ever gone there he was trying to ollie a picnic table standing up, the wrong way. Eventually he messed up his knee trying a kickflip front board in Mississauga and shortly after that joined the army and went overseas. Not too sure who made these videos but they're all of Ryan before/during his introduction to the army.

Sorry

To the three people who have ever checked this thing, sorry for not putting any more boring videos up for the past month or so. To make up for it here are a bunch of new ones.

First a video Erik Sviergula made of one day at Maple with McNeil's bench:

Secondly, an old Kingsmill video of a gnar quarter sesh:

And lastly, a Devin "Suckseal" Morrison video of one Friday evening at Maple:

Stay tuned for the next post devoted to a Maple legend who no longer attends the skatepark.

More Milton

3 more videos from Milton, the first two were filmed and created by Spencer Owens, the other one is a B Shans creation if my memory serves me correctly:

Milton

When Milton park first opened, everyone from Maple became fascinated by a new park in a relatively nearby town, so we all went there pretty often back in the day. This is one of the first of many Milton videos Kingsmill, B Shans or Owens made, this one being made by Kingsmill:

Ancient Maple Footage

Nothing too special, something to waste 2 minutes on. There's never been a video with so many flatbar front boards in it. Plus, Andy and Kingsmill get gnar!

CALL OF THE WILD

Kingsmill seemed pretty pumped when Andy landed this nosegrab:

MC HAMMERS

Another promo, this time created by Spencer Owens. MC Hammers was going to be a mostly-at-Maple video with footage from everyone who attended the park at that time, years ago.

The best part of the video is the ending montage of facial photographs.

BOOYAKASHA

This here is a very old promo for a video named "Booyakasha" that Erik Sviergula (Gula) was supposed to make a long time ago. Very early Andrew McNeil footage and any amount of Jake Scherer footage make this video worth watching.

EH YO!

This is Soul Tits, a blog based upon the display of classic Maple and assorted videos created by the likes of Alex Kingsmill, Brian Shannon, Spencer Owens and others. Enjoy!
